The archeological site of Tiwanaku is around 72 kms from the city-centre of La Paz.  During many years, the site was known as a pre-inca city, with its awesomeand stony architectures. Over the years, we wondered how these such pyramids, temples and monoliths have been built. Discover this magnificient ceremonial center and its archeological areas.

Tiwanaku is an archaeological site located in the Bolivian Altiplano, near Lake Titicaca. It was the center of an ancient civilization that flourished between the 5th and 12th centuries AD in the Andean region. This civilization, known as Tiwanaku, developed monumental architecture, highlighting structures such as the Gate of the Sun and the Akapana Pyramid. They also excelled in agriculture, hydraulic engineering, and sculpture. Although its collapse is still debated, its cultural influence extended across much of the Central Andes. The Tiwanaku site is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and remains a major tourist destination and a focus of archaeological and historical study. We will also visit Puma Punku, an archaeological site steeped in mystery.

Departure between 08:00 a 09:15 a.m. picking up from different lodgings (depends on the location of the hotel), once the pick-ups have been completed, the journey takes approximately 2 hours. Once arrived at the site our guide will indicate the visit of the attractions. Approximately 1:00 pm we will have lunch as well, our guide will indicate to visit the last attraction. The arrival to La Paz city is provided at approximately 4:30 p.m. It will end in the center of the city for all.

  • The attraction has a height of 3800 m.a.s.l. located in the Bolivian highlands.This activity is cultural, Kalasasaya, Lithic Museum, Ceramic Museum and Puma Punku will be visited.
  • The weather is mostly dry and sunny. Sometimes it may rain. The guide will make the best arrangements for your visit to the ruins and museums.
  • Recommendations: bring a light jacket in case it rains, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, and comfortable shoes.
  • Bring a copy of your ID (possible immigration control).
  • Halfway through the visit, we will have time for lunch at a restaurant serving typical regional cuisine, with vegetarian options. You can also bring your own food if you prefer.
  • Once lunch and the visit to Tiwanaku are over, the return trip will be with a single stop in the city center. If your hotel or connecting flight is along the route, you can take advantage of this and inform the guide in advance.
